Türkiye in Focus | The court’s dismissal of CHP’s Istanbul leadership once again exposed factional infighting within the party. Meanwhile, a terrorist attack on a police station in İzmir has fueled concerns about agents provocateurs. And Israel’s strike on Qatar stood out as another key topic in Türkiye. Here are some highlights from this week’s Türkiye in Focus:

Interim Leadership in CHP’s Istanbul Branch Sparks Political Tensions

“The court’s precautionary measure regarding the 38th congress of the CHP’s Istanbul provincial branch has triggered significant turbulence within the party. This decision has been made on the grounds that delegate votes had been “compromised” due to irregularities, leading to the removal of provincial chair Özgür Çelik and the appointment of Gürsel Tekin as interim head. “

İzmir Attack on Police Raises Fears of Agents Provocateurs

“The attack comes amid escalating regional strains, including Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and contesting Turkish-Israeli interests in Syria. Meanwhile, the “terror-free Türkiye” campaign continues engaging with terror groups, including the PKK and its Syrian affiliates, with Ankara stressing that disarmament must be comprehensive.”

Türkiye Stands with Qatar After Israeli Strike

“Israel’s strike in Doha targeting Hamas negotiators has triggered strong backlash in Türkiye, where the attack is widely viewed as a reckless provocation that risks deepening regional instability. President Erdoğan swiftly spoke by phone with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, emphasising Türkiye’s solidarity with the Qatari state and its people.”
