Türkiye in Focus

Weekly newsletter by TRT World Research Centre

Türkiye has just wrapped up a busy week in both domestic and foreign politics. The most prominent issue on the domestic front was the decision by the terrorist organization PKK to lay down arms and disband. The implications of this move are expected to become one of the key topics in the political landscape in the coming period. Türkiye’s Role as a Neutral Ground for Russia-Ukraine Talks

“Türkiye’s selection as a mediator by both Russia and Ukraine is grounded in its balanced relations, pragmatic neutrality, and proven track record. Ankara maintains rare open communication channels with both Moscow and Kyiv. Past successes, such as brokering the Black Sea Grain Initiative in July 2022 and facilitating prisoner exchanges, have reinforced Türkiye’s reputation as a reliable intermediary.”
