Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Russia and France have been supporting Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar and the so-called ‘Libyan National Army’ (LNA) out of concern for their own economic and geostrategic interests. Egypt and the UAE have taken a proactive role in empowering Haftar and facilitating his control over eastern Libya, supplying vital support to his offensive against the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA).
