‘Tired of Begging’: Developments in the Nile Dam Dispute

Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia must reach an understanding on how fast Ethiopia will fill the dam’s reservoir before it begins operation. An agreement on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will be transformative not only for Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan but also for the region as a whole. Ethiopia would reap significant development benefits; Egypt would be compelled to improve the management of its water supply; while Sudan is expected to receive cheap electricity from the GERD and benefit from dam-induced flood mitigation.
