This Discussion Paper highlights how the ideology of Hindutva has gained an increased foothold in India under Prime Minister Modi’s tenure and examines its spread via the extensive use of new media. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which arguably represents the culmination of this phenomenon, discriminates on the basis of religion and, according to its critics, particularly targets Islam. In light of these developments, the paper will explore the local and international responses to this controversial legislation.
