The Crises of the Liberal World Order: What Lies Ahead

This paper aims to discuss the roots of the crises of liberal order and its future. The paper will present an analysis of the concept of ‘world order’ and why we need it, together with the question of who establishes and maintains it.

This paper aims to discuss the roots of the crises of liberal order and its future. The paper will first present an analysis of the concept of ‘world order’ and why we need it, together with the question of who establishes and maintains it. After outlining the main premises of the liberal world order, the paper will discuss its ideological foundations with reference to the open economic system and interdependence, liberal principles and democratic peace theory, as well as multilateral institutions. It will be followed by an analysis of internal and external challenges that continue to shake the foundations of the current order. In the final section, the future of the world order will be discussed.
