Hollywood’s Portrayal of Artificial Intelligence

Hollywood movies have explored artificial intelligence technology for decades, assessing its potential for benefit and harm. However, these works prompt contemplation of the social, ethical, and existential questions surrounding artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence, a recurring theme in films featuring machines with humanoid features, has been depicted in various ways in the film industry regarding its potential impact on humanity as a threat or an opportunity.

This paper examines how artificial intelligence is portrayed in Hollywood through five popular AI movies. It aims to determine Hollywood’s approach to artificial intelligence and whether the films have common themes. The paper will discuss how films shape the understanding of society through the insights provided about the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence and its potential consequences. The relationship between Hollywood movies and reality will be examined objectively.
