    TİP’s Political Path: Class Struggle or Identity Politics?

    The socialist leftist movement in Türkiye has a deep-rooted tradition dating back to the Ottoman period. However, socialism has not been able to assert itself strongly in Turkish politics. With the 2018 general elections, the Workers’ Party of Türkiye (TİP) had the chance to be represented in parliament, first with two and then with four deputies. TİP chairman Erkan Baş and Barış Atay Mengüllüoğlu entered the elections from the HDP lists and returned to their party after the elections and gained representation in parliament 53 years after appearing under the name Workers’ Party of Türkiye.
