A Year After Turkey’s Failed Coup: The Implications of Turkey’s Changing Security Environment

TRT World Research Centre held a lively joint event with RUSI (in London) on about the July 15 coup attempt. The event highlighted the changing aspects of Turkey’s security equation after the coup. Panelists also addressed the question of eliminating FETÖ members from the ranks of security bureaucracy.

TRT World Research Centre held a corporate event with The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), London. In light of the one-year commemoration of the failed coup attempt, the impact of the coup attempt on Turkish politics, and contemporary trends and developments in Turkish politics were discussed. Prof.Gülnur Aybet, Head Advisor to the President, Fatma Ceren Yazgan from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Resul Serdar Ataş, TRT World Program Director as well as Dr. Ziya Meral, Director of the Centre on Religion and Global Affairs were present as panelists at the July 15 event in London.

Moderated by Raffaello Pantucci, Director of International Security Studies at RUSI, the panel also addressed the shift in Turkish politics due to the shockwaves of the failed coup as well as foreign policy changes in search of the right chord in Turkey’s international affairs. Analysis was made to understand Turkey’s changing security environment after the July 15 coup attempt and the possible trajectories Turkey might follow.
