Haya Atassi Önügören
Haya Atassi Önügören is an Associate Researcher at TRT World Research Center. She received her BA in Political Studies from the American University of Beirut and her MA in International Relations from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Haya has co-authored a research paper titled “Living with Ongoing Political Trauma: The Prevalence and Impact of PTSD among Syrian Refugees”. She was also a member of the research team at the Issam Fares Institute of Public Policy and International Affairs which which co-authored a paper with UN Habitat, titled “No Place to Stay? Reflections on the Syrian Refugee Shelter Policy in Lebanon.” Haya has been active in humanitarian work since 2011 where she volunteered with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. She worked at International Humanitarian Relief as a Monitoring & Evaluation Coordinator and later as Safety and Security Advisor. Haya has co-founded and acted as Vice President of the Syrian Youth Assembly, which is a platform for Syrian youth working together to build peace in Syria. Haya’s research interests include the Middle East, political psychology, conflict resolution, politics and religion and identity politics.
